Introductory GPS Workshop

This is a one day workshop covering the basics of your GPSr.  The course is based on Garmin GPSrs, but the same principle holds for other makes.  The number of participants is limited to about 10, to cater for finding menu items on different GPSrs.  It will help if the participants know how to find their way around their units, ie they should be familiar with where the different menu items are.

The workshop covers the basic principles, eg how signals are received, how to record waypoints, how to navigate along routes and tracks etc, ie all the necessary tools for effective navigation.  It does not cover data manipulation software, on which your data can be planned or analysed, such as OziExplorer, or MapSource.  This will be covered on a later course.

The theory will be followed with some exercises, where certain objects have to be found and identified, on foot.  Some routes and tracks will also be followed (by vehicle).  The results will then be analysed, and are extremely useful for pinpointing areas which need to be observed in future.

Normal cost is R500 per couple.  Overnight camping can be arranged.  If possible, please arrange alternative accommodation for your young children.
